About this service

Falls prevention & rehabilitation

A fall, or even a near miss, can shake someone's confidence far more than it bruises them. People often start avoiding the stairs, going out less and moving less, which over time can leave them weaker and less steady. Falls prevention physiotherapy aims to break that cycle by finding out why someone is unsteady and working on the parts that can change.

Doing this at home means the assessment happens where falls actually occur: the rug in the hall, the step down into the kitchen, the trip to the bathroom at night. Nasir uses recognised balance measures alongside a practical look round the rooms you use most, then builds a strength and balance programme you can follow safely in your own space.

What's included in every visit

  • Validated falls-risk screening
  • Strength + balance programme adapted to your home
  • Hazard check in each room you use daily

Who this helps

  • Anyone who has had a fall, or a near miss, in the past year
  • People who feel unsteady when turning, reaching or walking outdoors
  • Those who have become afraid of falling and are doing less as a result
  • Anyone who has been on the floor and couldn't get up without help
  • Families worried about a relative who lives alone
  • People recovering from a fall-related injury, such as a wrist or hip fracture

What happens on a visit

  1. 1

    Falls history and risk screening

We go through recent falls or trips, how they happened, medication, eyesight, footwear and night-time toilet trips. Some causes, such as dizziness or blackouts, are best checked by your GP, and we'll tell you if so.

  2. 2

    Balance and strength testing

Recognised measures such as the Timed Up and Go test, the Berg Balance Scale or the Tinetti assessment give a clear starting point and let us track changes over time.

  3. 3

    Room-by-room hazard check

We look at lighting, rugs, trailing cables, stairs and the bathroom, and suggest simple changes or equipment where they would genuinely help.

  4. 4

    Strength, balance and getting-up practice

Your programme is progressive and based on the kind of strength and balance exercise recommended in UK falls-prevention guidance. It also covers how to get up from the floor safely, and what to do if you can't.

Questions about falls prevention & rehabilitation

I haven't actually fallen. Is an assessment still worth having?

If you feel unsteady or have started avoiding things, yes. Working on strength and balance before a fall happens is a sensible step, and the assessment gives you a clear picture of where you stand.

What should we do if someone falls?

If they have hit their head, can't move, are in severe pain or may have broken a bone, call 999 and don't try to lift them. If they're unhurt, let them rest, then get up slowly using a sturdy chair. Tell their GP about any fall, especially if the cause isn't clear.

Can family members join the sessions?

Absolutely. Relatives can learn the exercises, help put the hazard changes in place and understand what to do if a fall happens. Weekend appointments can make this easier to arrange.
